Hi everyone,
Gregor here to check in with the first update of 2026. Marijn and I hope that you enjoyed the holidays, we sure did. Although, it feels nice to be back in the office again and getting work done. Here is a small recap of what we’ve been up to this month.
We were planning to represent Moai at FutureXPO 2025 in Amsterdam this December. After the momentum from Web Summit Lisbon and Adopt AI in Paris in November, it felt like a great next step. Unfortunately, due to restructuring at the parent company, the event was cancelled before the end of the year.
After a few months of silence, we heard back in the first week of January. The parent company has since been declared bankrupt, which means the chances of recovering our ticket costs are slim. Disappointing, but also a reminder that not everything is within your control. We’ve closed the chapter and are staying focused on the things we can influence moving forward.
Regarding the start of the year, I can confidently confirm that we are back in full force after a well deserved Christmas holiday. It always takes a bit of time to get back into the workflow at the beginning of the year. Getting out of the holiday slump and picking up loose ends. We are back building and demoing Moai.
And not just building Moai the product. We started noticing that some work had certain repetition and recurrence. Tasks that need to happen over and over again. It dawned upon us, it might be useful to document these tasks for scalability reasons. Before we knew it we had created and documented business processes.
This month the focus has been on business development and reflecting on our own input/output. This was partially stimulated by our new divide in responsibilities which has been a great decision. It helps to have ownership and responsibility. Dividing up the responsibilities means more attention for the assigned tasks, leading to more accurate and high quality results.
The biggest trap of building software is assuming what the customer wants. How does one know what the customer wants? Simple, just talk to them. It sounds very obvious when you say it out loud, but this is something that keeps being forgotten too often – and we used to be part of that category.
Doing Moai demos has been really valuable. Aside from it being a moment where we can proudly show our own creation to someone who is genuinely interested, it is also the perfect moment to talk and learn about the needs of potential customers.
Through demoing we learned that our example scenario was not specific enough which led to a poorly conveyed USP of Moai. We changed it to a more solid and relevant scenario which displays the real advantage of having your data connected by Moai.
A new scenario means a new demo video as well. The demo video is now up to date with the latest version. Moai does not only find documents based on your search query, it now can fully answer your questions by giving an AI answer based on the found data. Check the new demo video here.
Of course all feedback is welcome so feel free to respond.
See you next month!
